Conclusion

From the videos and the specifications provided it looks like the Polycom Pano will be a quality contender in the wireless presentation market. We can now only hope that the Polycom Pano will be competitively priced and that the video performance will be on par or even outperforming its competitors.

Just a note for our customers who need to ensure the unit can integrate with an enterprise network. The Polycom Pano doesn’t include a built-in wireless access point. We recommend you create a dedicated VLAN for your Polycom Pano devices and then ensure that only traffic from your Guest and Corporate LAN can access the subnet in the said VLAN. It is also important that the “Polycom Pano VLAN” will be blocked from communicating with the Guest and Corporate VLAN’s. If you are using a dedicated VLAN for your video conference systems, you will have to provide access to the Polycom Pano and Video Conference VLAN’s.

The Barco ClickShare CSM-1 set consists of two USB-powered devices (the ‘ClickShare Buttons’) and a Base Unit. The Base Unit has a fixed connection to the meeting room’s visualization system, and takes care of all the processing required. Users who want to display their presentation via the large meeting room screen, simply connect a Button to their PC or MAC. They then start the application, click the ClickShare Button and immediately their desktop is wirelessly transferred to the large visualization system. Alternatively, when using a smartphone or tablet (either iOS or Android-powered), a simple app allows you to share content as well. A maximum of two people can show their content on-screen simultaneously.

Conclusion

The Barco ClickShare is the best wireless presentation solution in South Africa.  Even though the unit is more expensive it does deliver in quality.  It is really pointless using a wireless presentation system if the quality cannot be the same as a wired solution.  All the systems fail in this regard and the ClickShare is the only solution that comes close to the hardwired solutions.  I would highly recommend the unit for any business, education, or hospitality application, but would warn you that older computers don’t perform as well as the newer generations.
