Auditoriums are generally the heart of an organisation, and as such require extra attention during the design phase. Many factors play a role when designing corporate audio visual systems for these environments, including:

Room Acoustics

  • Floor and wall covering play a major role, as hard surfaces tend to cause reverberation.
  • Seating layout, where the level of seating elevation can have a major effect on sound pressure levels.
  • Sound distribution – those seated close to speakers should not be blown away, while those furthest cannot hear clearly.

Room Visuals

  • The correct screen sizes, based on viewing distance to the last delegate, is very important in preventing the audience from straining to see.
  • Equally important are the viewing angles, which if not calculated correctly, result in the same viewing strain.
  • Screen heights should be such that everyone in the audience can see and not just those seated in front, i.e. those at the back should be able to see the bottom of the screen without audience obstruction, and those seated right in front should not have neck discomfort in order to see the top of the screen.

Lighting Conditions

  • Light levels need to be adjustable to suit all possible uses for the environment. “Pre-sets” can be programmed for ease of use.
  • Very poor lighting conditions can cause eye strain when looking at a bright screen in the dark.
  • Equally as strenuous is trying read a projected image, washed out due to overly bright lighting.
